As part of the CFPB’s annual report to Congress on the federal government’s efforts to implement the FDCPA, the FTC submitted highlights from its 2013 enforcement actions signaling that the Commission will continue to play an active role in enforcing the FDCPA in collaboration with the CFPB and state attorneys general.

The FTC noted that it “continued with aggressive law enforcement activities” to address a host of “new and troubling issues” including text message-based debt collection and secured “tough and effective remedies to promote compliance with the [FDCPA].”  The FTC also highlighted that it filed three amicus briefs in debt collection cases on appeal to the Second and Seventh Circuits – two of which were filed jointly with the CFPB.
