According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) were way up for the month. On the other hand, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) filings as well as complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were all down. Nonetheless, everything is still up YTD.
WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in February as follows:
- 783 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 5.9% decrease from January;
- 352 FDCPA cases were filed, representing an 11.1% decrease from January;
- 292 TCPA cases were filed, representing a 33.3% increase from January; and
- 27,567 complaints were filed with the CFPB, representing a 13.6% decrease from January.
Complaints and filings are all up compared to the same period in the prior year (January 1 to February 28, 2025): FCRA +37.4%, FDCPA +18.5%, TCPA +26.8%, CFPB +40.4%.
