According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) were down for the month. Yet, complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were up. Year-to-date everything is up compared to 2023. CFPB complaints are up by a whooping 110.6%!

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in September as follows:

  • 466 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 1.3% decrease from August;
  • 316 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 17.1% decrease from August;
  • 137 TCPA cases filed, representing a 12.2% decrease from August; and
  • 15,751 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 9.2% increase from August.

Filings are still up in all categories compared to January 1 to September 30, 2023 (FCRA +11.5%, FDCPA +10.0%, TCPA +2.4%, CFPB +110.6%).
