According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were up for the month. Year-to-date everything is up compared to 2023.
WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in October as follows:
- 476 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 2.1% increase from September;
- 329 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 4.1% increase from September;
- 161 TCPA cases filed, representing a 17.5% increase from September; and
- 16,633 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 5.6% increase from September.
Filings are still up in all categories compared to January 1 to October 31, 2023 (FCRA +10.1%, FDCPA +6.3%, TCPA +4.4%, CFPB +119.3%).
