According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were up for the month. Year-to-date everything is up compared to 2023.
WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in August as follows:
- 472 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 4.0% increase from July;
- 381 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 3.5% increase from July;
- 156 TCPA cases filed, representing a 20.9% increase from July; and
- 13,351 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 8.3% increase from July.
Filings are still up in all categories compared to January 1 to August 31, 2023 (FCRA +14.8%, FDCPA +13.1%, TCPA +4.4%, CFPB +98.4%).
