According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were up double digits percentages from December 2023. The biggest jump was in TCPA filings, which increased by 78.6%!

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in January as follows:

  • 530 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 23.8% increase from December;
  • 453 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 24.1% increase from December;
  • 200 TCPA cases filed, representing a 78.6% increase from December; and
  • 6,947 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing a 14.8% increase from December.

In addition to filings being up across the board from December 2023, filings were also up compared to January 2023. Filings under the TCPA were up 50.4%, FDCPA increased by 30.5%, and FCRA increased by 19.6%. CFPB complaints were similarly up 14.3% compared to January 2023.
