According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) were back up for the month of July. Complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were also up for the month.

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in August as follows:

  • 492 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 6.5% increase from July;
  • 376 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 15% increase from July;
  • 158 TCPA cases filed, representing a 5.3% increase from July; and
  • 5,692 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing a 4.1% increase from July.

Year-to-date cases are still down for FDCPA and FCRA filings, but TCPA’s big jump in May made for a year-to-date gain of 13.2%. CFPB complaints are down 5.3% for the year.
