According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) were slightly up while filings under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) remained unchanged for the month of July. Complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were down for the month.

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in July as follows:

  • 462 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 2.4% increase from June;
  • 327 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 2.8% increase from June;
  • 148 TCPA cases filed, representing a 0.0% change from June; and
  • 5,174 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 8.4% decrease from June.

Year-to-date cases are still down for FDCPA and FCRA filings, but TCPA’s big jump in May made for a year-to-date gain of 16.8%.
