Join Troutman Sanders partners David Anthony and Ashley Taylor at the upcoming National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) Mid-Year Legislative & Regulatory Conference at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC on April 3-5.

The NAPBS Mid-Year Conference focuses on regulation, legislation, education, and compliance related to the background screening industry and, as always, offers invaluable networking opportunities for background screening professionals. The multi-day format, with a wide variety of topics, will offer educational opportunities in all of the aforementioned areas.

David Anthony will be a featured speaker for a session entitled “Cutting Edge FCRA Compliance Issues” on Monday, April 4 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.  The presentation will focus on cutting edge compliance issues under the Fair Credit Reporting Act that have recently led to litigation, with an exploration of their substance and ways to mitigate risk.  These issues include: (1) employment background screening for independent contractors; (2) FCRA obligations for public record vendors; (3) compliance risks associated with adjudication/scoring by background screeners; and (4) issues regarding file disclosures.

Ashley Taylor will speak on a panel entitled “Regulatory Enforcement – A View from the Inside” on Tuesday, April 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  This moderated panel will hear from a former FTC official and former state deputy attorney general about how enforcement priorities and potential targets are identified, the effect of the political process, and how the FTC, CFPB, and attorneys general coordinate (or not) with each other.  The speakers will provide practical insight in how your company can best manage formal and informal investigations.
