We are proud to announce that Troutman Sanders partner David Anthony will be a featured speaker at the Practising Law Institute’s 21st Annual Consumer Financial Services Institute at the Practising Law Institute (PLI) Center in New York City on April 4-5.

In its 21st year, the Institute will focus on a broad array of recent regulatory, enforcement, and litigation issues relating to mortgages, auto finance, student loans, credit, debit and prepaid cards, deposit accounts, the use of emerging payment systems, including mobile wallets, and other products and services.  Speakers will also examine new developments in fair lending, TCPA, FCRA, the Military Lending Act, and SCRA.

David will speak on a panel entitled “Fair Credit Reporting Act & Debt Collection” on Tuesday, April 5 from 2:30-3:45.  The panel will discuss class actions challenging debt buyers’ retroactive imposition of post-charge off interest, risks of licensing some but not all related collection entities, recent trends in FCRA case filings, including screening disclosures, adverse action notices and employment background checks, and analysis of case law developments under the FCRA and key verdicts and settlements.  Additionally, the panel will address the implications of Suesz v. Med-1 and Powers v. CMS, fees, charges, and interest related to debt collection, as well as the collection of time-barred debts.
